WARE MALCOMB ANNOUNCES CONSTRUCTION IS COMPLETE ON BOOKING.COM OFFICE IN SEATTLE
SEATTLE (November 16, 2016) – Ware Malcomb, an award-winning international design firm, today announced construction is complete on the new Booking.com office space located at 200 West Mercer Street, Suite 100 in Seattle. Ware Malcomb provided interior architecture and branding services for the project, which draws inspiration from the local urban environment and natural landscape to capture the spirit of Seattle.
The 9,750 square foot regional office for Booking.com, a leading global e-commerce company, features design elements inspired by iconic Seattle landmarks, providing employees and visitors with a fresh, urban and local feel. Interior office improvements include a new welcome area, open office space, collaborative areas, small and large meeting rooms, and an employee game room. The modern, functional space incorporates the latest workplace strategies, as well as eco-friendly and reclaimed materials to emulate and contribute to the preservation of nature.
Visitors are greeted in a reception area comprised of metal, concrete, and wood elements to project an industrial feel inspired by two Seattle landmarks: the Space Needle and the EMP Museum. Throughout the rest of the office, design elements and custom graphics continue to provide an immersive environment that reflects iconic elements of the local area. The breakroom consists of reclaimed wood encompassing the walls, cabinets, and tables to recreate the seaside atmosphere of Pike Place Market, complete with a custom branded neon sign reminiscent of those found throughout the marketplace. Employees can take a break from work in the game room, which features full height custom wall graphics inspired by Seattle’s professional sports teams and fans. The game room provides employees a place to unwind and socialize, with contemporary office lounge furniture and foosball, ping pong, and shuffleboard tables.
One of the more unique features of the project is the design of the meeting rooms, which represent popular Seattle destinations. The meeting rooms each showcase a wall graphic of a photo taken by an employee, which creates the design theme for the rest of the space. In one room, a wall height photo of orange flowers from Chihuly Garden and Glass frames the Space Needle in the background to evoke the feeling of an autumn day. A natural wood conference table and earth tone color scheme for the carpet complete this experience. In another room, a panoramic photo of CenturyLink Field spans a wall while vibrant blue furniture accents and geometric carpet patterns present a more playful environment. The use of employees’ personal photos to drive the design of the meeting rooms provides a sense of ownership and pride in their workplace.
Ware Malcomb’s in-house Branding Studio worked together with the firm’s Interior Design Studio to produce graphics for the visitor welcome area and employee game room that enhanced the interior architecture and fulfilled the client’s vision of a local urban feel.
“The team at Booking.com wanted that “wow” effect when you walked into their new offices,” said Alan Lambert, Regional Director of Ware Malcomb’s Seattle office. ”This was accomplished by applying cutting edge design to create a unique environment inspired by local Seattle icons. Employees and visitors alike are treated to an immersive experience that truly captures the spirit of Seattle, from the vibrant downtown to the beauty of the surrounding landscape.”
Ware Malcomb’s San Francisco team also provided interior design and branding services for Booking.com’s offices in San Francisco. In this market, the space reflects the San Francisco’s historic landmarks and vibrant culture. This project was completed in May.
Ware Malcomb Seattle’s recent projects include providing architectural design services for the BKM Tukwila Commerce Center project in Tukwila, Wash., and Medline offices in Lacey, Wash., interior architecture and design services for the new corporate office of Washington Capital Management Inc. in Seattle, and tenant improvement services for Coldwell Banker Bain in Seattle.
