Pediatric Orthopedic Associates, P.A.
East Brunswick, New JerseyWare Malcomb provided architecture and civil engineering services for the renovation of the Pediatric Orthopedic Associates, P.A. office on 585 Cranbury Road in East Brunswick, New Jersey. The orthopedic practice specializes in the management and treatment of musculoskeletal conditions that affect children from birth through adolescence and is now part of the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital.
The 6,000 square foot building features a residential craftsman-inspired design which updated the original 1980’s style of the building. With the initial evaluation of the building, one objective was to relocate the entrance from the corner of the facility to the center to make it more prominent. “An important component to this project was restructuring the entry-way. It was crucial to emphasize ease and flow of pedestrian traffic so we designed an entrance gable, which also enhanced the craftsman look,” said Edward Mayer II, AIA, LEED GA, Principal, Architecture of Ware Malcomb’s Newark, Princeton and New York offices. “With this newly upgraded facility, the Pediatric Orthopedic Associates team is poised for success and can continue to serve their patients and the community for years to come.”
To achieve the residential craftsman look, the Ware Malcomb team selected modern, Nichiha siding for the upper building façade and stone for the lower portion. The existing steel columns were reused and resurfaced in stone to match the new design. New windows were installed to complement the upgraded exterior façade.
