Medline Industries’ unparalleled growth created a need for a new and larger combined office and distribution center in Grayslake, IL. With a commitment to their customers, colleagues and communities, Medline aimed to bring new jobs to the area, create opportunities to communicate with their clients and to foster a work atmosphere that embodies their employee-focused culture.
This larger distribution center features uniquely branded break areas with billiards, foosball tables, specialty furniture, and collaboration space for a true respite for employees. There are also sleep rooms and quiet areas for workers to concentrate or unwind. These spaces increase efficiency and allows warehouse workers who put in long hours to rest and recharge. To achieve this, our team collaborated closely with Medline early in the process to understand these goals and collaborated throughout the process to ensure that all requirements were met for a quality-built structure that also shows current and prospective employees what it means to be a part of Medline.
Unique to this project, Medline and Ware Malcomb coordinated the placement of their walkways and mezzanines to be positioned in a way that gives direct access to view how their warehouse operates. With this design feature, they can demonstrate to clients how quickly and effectively their products are packaged and dispatched. Additionally, it helps the client learn more about Medline as a business and provide an opportunity for two-way communication.
The new facility also includes a main office area, receiving and shipping office, temperature control room and white box area. An extension of their nearby headquarters, this warehouse distribution center is the premier example for their company. According to a spokesperson for Medline, it is estimated to be the largest medical-grade distribution center in the United States.
