An Internet Domain’s Office Revival Receives Award
“To design a creative office space that showcases an innovative, contemporary, and sleek design, the journey begins as one arrives to the driveway.”
That was the inspiration used to design the award-wining 100,000 SF Stamps.com corporate headquarters in El Segundo, California. Ware Malcomb was awarded a 2014 Commercial Real Estate Award from the Los Angeles Business Journal. The project earned the Silver Award in the office category at the awards ceremony in Los Angeles on February 18, 2014.
Regional Director, Radwan Madani attended the award ceremony on behalf of the Ware Malcomb Los Angeles team.
To begin the journey through the new office space, the team created an iconic entry statement by structurally joining the existing 3-story office buildings with a new, 18,000 SF central lobby/amenity space and entry plaza. The entry plaza is defined by a monolithic fountain and raised planters with integrated seating. A new 50-ft tall structural glass stair tower anchors the plaza and serves as an identity marker for Stamps.com.
Concrete colored ceramic tile and white metal panel walls extend from the plaza into the lobby, creating a cohesive design. Stacked conference rooms and a cantilevered board room provide a glimpse into the office lifestyle from the 2-story lobby. The rear of the addition houses an interactive cafe and collaboration lounge to round out the office amenities.
Ware Malcomb worked closely with Stamps.com on revising the main core of the existing building to provide upgraded building services and a more efficient space layout in order to create a more collaborative office environment. All three floors were connected by installing a circular central stair. The 1980’s era buildings were renovated with white metal panel and high performance glass to create a contemporary image; all while being occupied by existing tenants.
This challenge was overcome by close coordination with the client, tenants, and the contractor throughout all phases on design and construction. This ensured continuous operation for existing tenants and minimized any impact during work hours. The team was able to complete construction within a very tight schedule of nine months, due to the precise coordinating between all trades.
“This project allowed us to combine our architectural and interior design expertise to create a building as innovative and dynamic as Stamps.com itself,” said Madani. “We wish the entire team at Stamps.com much continued success in its new award-winning creative office headquarters.”
