A Sustainable Workplace for Lexus
Hired by Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A, our team provided interior design services for the 38,000 square foot Lexus Eastern Area Office in Parsippany, New Jersey. This project has been awarded Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) Platinum certification from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC).
Interactive workplace strategy meetings were conducted with Toyota to understand the business parameters for success. Lexus’s objectives included providing brand identity and a flexible environment that promoted a progressive, collaborative culture. We focused on designing an environment that would support the Lexus brand initiatives, incorporating sustainable design solutions and staying within the client’s budget.
The office was designed around a central “town hall” with glass garage folding doors to give the entire team a space to meet regularly as well as provide space for smaller meetings. The classroom “garage door” opens up and provides opportunities for collaboration.
The training areas consist of classrooms that directly access the training bays. SolaTubes were added in the training bays, the office areas and the work café, to allow natural sunlight to enter the space.
Ware Malcomb designed the work café with multiple zones. This allowed for dealer meetings, employees’ lunch, and trainees break time to happen simultaneously. The café was planned next to a smaller conference room with direct glass door access, promoting transparency between Lexus, its dealers, employees and vendors.
This project positively impacted the surrounding community by becoming one of the most environmentally friendly build outs in the area. The team incorporated significant sustainable elements into the project including a 40% water use reduction; utilization of recycled content and materials; and low-emitting materials for paints, coatings and flooring systems. These elements, among many others, were what contributed to the project’s achievement and LEED Platinum certification by the USGBC.
The new Lexus Eastern Area Office is not only a vibrant and creative space, but it also provides a sustainable and collaborative work environment for current and future Lexus employees.
